Literary Scholarship
Dennis Haskell has written and edited over a dozen books of literary criticism and scholarship. In addition to the books listed here, he has published over 40 book chapters, and over 50 journal articles, not to mention the numerous conference papers, reviews and other non-traditional publications.
He is recognised as a leading authority on the work of Kenneth Slessor and Bruce Dawe. Although his main research area is poetry, and more particularly Australian poetry, his scholarly work is unusual in its breadth. It includes work on John Keats and W. B. Yeats, and contemporary writing on which there is little or no previous research. His interests range from technical aspects of literary language and craft to philosophical and social issues, often demonstrating the links between these issues.
In recent years he has sought to establish the relation of literature and literary thought to political and social events. He has also been at the forefront of literary representations of Australian-Asian interactions.
