This anthology samples some rich pickings of poetry, fiction, essays and interviews from Westerly, one of Australia’s leading literary magazines since it commenced publication in the mid-1950s.

The focus of the anthology is contemporary Asia—its various countries, its cultures, its literary artists and intellectuals. Some of the regions’ best-known writers are represented, including Kamala Das, Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Edwin Thumboo, and many others.

Australian authors represented here include Randolph Stow, Frank Moorhouse, Yasmine Gooneratne and Nicholas Jose.

Westerly’s policy of publishing lively, inquisitive prose and verse pays off in this feast of images, ideas and insights which link Australia with the countries of Asia.
